What makes Clocks Tick?

In days gone by, one was able to flip open the face or back of a clock or watch to see the internal workings. One is beguiled by the rhythmic tick, tick, of the cogs turning and the magical advancement of the clock hands.

Today with the electric/battery powered time pieces, we don't get the chance to have that awe inspiring look  at what makes time advance. Some artists have addressed this lack by decorating the clock faces with gears and other moving parts of a time keeping mechanism.  Here is one of my favorites that I located on Zazzle.
